"I remember a couple of years ago, when I'd join my mom on her tennis games and I was always so happy when you would be there as well. Most of her friends were always interested in what I was up to, but you had a special interest -- you really understood where I was coming from when I spoke of going to Africa, of wanting to save the environment, etc. Just as I had many professors in college but only a few who really guided me to where I am today, so I also know many of my mom's friends but only a couple have really had an impact on where I am and who I am today.
