Coach's Corner Lesson #4

The primary elements of fusion tennis

I’m neither a physicist nor a scientist nor an evidence collector of any sort. Having made that disclaimer allows me humbly and intuitively to proceed with more of my theory of fusion tennis which is in the experimental phase and always will be. It is a mental approach to the game that involves attention fused with intention.

I left off last time with broad vision ( seeing the whole court at once by directing your attention to the net posts AND simultaneously looking at the center of the court).
I said then not to dwell on it but to move to the next element, the opponent. Acknowledge your opponent (him/her/them) and move to the next element, your racket. Acknowledge the feel of the grip of your racket. It should be a forehand grip with racket head favoring the backhand side. Or if you are serving, acknowledge the feel of the grip you use for your first or second serve. Again, don’t dwell on it!
Move to the last element, the ball. Once there you dwell with the other three elements at the level of lingering impression.

This is what you do with your attention. You have properly sequenced your mind with the primary elements of the game and you are ready to execute your intention.

Total elapsed time for this process should take no longer than 4 seconds. Try it....
