| This ladder was developed to provide an opportunity for members to enjoy some social/competitive mixed doubles play. The rules below will allow us to manage the data and update the ladder in an accurate way. Overriding all the procedural suggestions is the desire for people to enjoy getting to know other club members and to improve their game through practice. Please challenge often; play fair; have fun.
1. The initial order of players on a ladder may be constructed in a number of ways. It should be considered as a starting point for the ladder season. In our case, the ladder was developed as a result of a fun day of tennis, with teams each playing 4 other teams to establish their starting position.
2. Now the real fun begins! Teams already on the ladder may challenge any team ranked above them. Any two players (1 male and 1 female) may form a team and challenge onto the ladder. In this case, a challenge may be made at any level deemed appropriate.
3. Players move up and down the ladder according to the results of their challenges. If a team challenges and wins, they takes over the challenged team’s ladder position and everyone between the two players moves down one spot. For example, if team number four challenges and beats team number two, team four takes over position two, team number two moves down to position three and team number three moves to position four. If the challenging team loses, they retain in their current position.
4. If a team is challenging to join the ladder and wins their challenge, they take the position ahead of the team they defeated, and all other teams move down. However, if a team challenges to join the ladder and loses, they take a position at the bottom of the ladder.
5. We want an active ladder. To accomplish this, challenged teams must respond to a challenge within a reasonable amount of time to keep the ladder moving. Please try to respond to a challenge within 7 days and arrange a match as soon as all 4 players can get together. If there is no acceptance of a challenge (that means you don’t reply within a reasonable time), it is considered a forfeit by the challenged team and the challengers moves up.
6. The winner of the challenge reports the score to the ladder administrator.

7. The challenging team is responsible for bringing new balls to the match.
8. That’s it. We will update the ladder monthly in the newsletter. Hope to see many new teams and lots of action on the ladder. Thanks for joining!
