President's MESSAGE : February 2007

Welcome to the 2007 tennis season; even though we need more rain I’m sure we all hope for some rays of sunshine to get out on the courts. The Singles Ladder players didn’t seem to mind the rain – they played 28 matches in January!

The 2007 board met last week and welcomed Bob Pearl, a founding member of LATC, and a new board member. Bob returns to activity with the club after a long absence, and his enthusiasm and fresh ideas are appreciated. We encourage any LATC member to attend board meetings for your input with respect to club activities and would (very much) welcome your involvement.

The board approved the formation of a Men’s Doubles Ladder which Bob Pearl will head up. He has good ideas to get it off to a rousing start including a tournament in which a member might invite a non-member to play – more to come on this soon.

The combined Ladies Interclubs (all levels) will hold a Play Day on May 10 at Cuesta Tennis Center. Hold this date on your calendar as more details will come soon. The Play Day will give ladies an opportunity to play round-robin sets as well as enjoying a social lunch together.

Bill Powell is at LAHS most Saturday and Sunday mornings at 8:30am. Drop in for some play – both men and women are invited to this informal gathering of players.

The board would very much appreciate your ideas of other and more activities so that we can come together often for both social events and for active tennis. Total membership at present is 151 with final renewals still being paid – a large number of people with similar interest –  tennis! The 2007 membership list will be included in the March newsletter. Let’s all get to know one another better and play tennis with each other soon.
