Dear Members,
Our Annual Meeting and Dinner on March 25 was a terrific success with almost 80 members attending. We accomplished the dictates of our by-laws with the membership electing this year’s executive board members: Bethel Watt, president, Bill Powell, vice-president, Doris Lehr, treasurer, Pat Frischmann, secretary and Mary Ann Weingartner, membership chair. Marilyn Young, by a recent board vote, was awarded a lifetime membership in LATC. Along with other lifetime members who attended the dinner, Lynn Hunton, Lynne Sweet, Bob Pearl and Marijke Vallaeys, Marilyn was so honored by her longtime commitment and participation in our club.
It takes a ‘village’ to run an event smoothly. Once again, kudos to Mary Ann Weingartner, who planned the dinner to the Nth degree, testing and re-testing foods to be served, providing well organized service preparation and food stations for quick buffet service, and over all calm supervision of dinner. She was assisted by Sherry Barba, Myrna Marshall, Lorraine Croft, Joyce Johnsen and Marijke Vallaeys, who all enthusiastically did a terrific job.
Bill Powell, with the help of Wendell Lehr, served up delicious and popular margaritas, and attended to all other libations for the evening. Pat Frischmann, with the creative assistance of Levan Gray, transformed the Garden House into a Mexican Casa. Thanks also to Jo Darius, who greeted all attendees. With the assistance of Jack Bates, our resident story-teller Bob Pearl provided an entertaining Skip Wilson routine.
Doris Lehr headed up donations for door prizes from Swetka’s, Fiesta Villarta, Maltby’s, DeMartini’s, Le Boulanger and See’s. We urge you to patronize these generous merchants/businesses/restaurants and to thank them for their continued support of LATC.
Jean Hassoun announced that Marijke Vallaeys was recognized by NorCal USTA as top web designer for the Sunnyvale Tennis Club website. A big congratulations to Marijke for her great work and for her dedication to so many clubs in our area. Many thanks go to Dorita Strotman, who spent many hours identifying people in photos from the LATC archived photo albums. The albums will be brought to the future tournaments for all to enjoy.
Yes, it takes a ‘village’ to run an event, and we’re happy all enjoyed the evening.
Our Interclubs and Ladders continue a very busy scheduled, and we look forward to our next Tournament, Smash Cancer, on June 14, and the Ladies Interclub Play Day, THURSDAY, MAY 29.
Regards,
Beth Watt
