Pres09President's MESSAGE : May 2009

As usual, there was a great spirit of camaraderie and teamwork

Had several events since last newsletter! The April Playday was fun for all and was highlighted by Patty’s delicious lunch!

The Club Annual Meeting and Dinner was a well-attended and fun event, Patty Chicchi, our social chairperson and chef, outdid herself with a gorgeous gourmet dinner featuring Italian lasagna masterfully procured and baked by Mary Ann Weingarten, hand made prosciutto wrapped asparagus spears, lovely cheese and snack trays, a sparkling green salad and an array of French and Italian wines! It was a great opportunity to see people who we might not have seen for a long time!

Beth Watt was extolled for her excellent service as President for two years and initiating the annual meeting and dinner!

We were thrilled to see Karen Halkens in attendance and able to stand and address the group! As you may know Karen suffered a debilitating stroke some time ago, but she has been able to fight her way back with the assistance of her husband, Gary.

Jack Bates received a beautiful tennis blanket presented in honor of his service and guidance to the club. He then served as Master of Ceremonies, leading the group in a rousing singing of “That’s Amore!” with prizes provided to the tables with the most enthusiastic presentation.

Jack then introduced Bob Pearl, our cowboy poet laureate, who had prepared a special poem for the occasion. His poem dwelt on the similarity between a cowboy’s hat and a tennis player’s hat. It was an outstanding poem and was vigorously applauded by the group!

As usual, there was a great spirit of camaraderie and teamwork – everyone pitched in to assist with the activities needed to make the dinner a success! Myrna Hayes, our new board member, served as greeter and nametag applier. Al Weingartner and Peter Barba served as wine consultants and Barpersons and assisted in putting away the tables and chairs, as did Karen and Ralph Kenton, Bill and Beth Watt, Jack and Bette Bates among others. Myrna Marshall provided great assistance in the kitchen!
