Dear Members,

The Board voted to use LATC funds to support the Ladies Interclub leagues until December 31, 2006. After that there will be a $3/player fee to defray the new costs that the City of Los Altos now charges for use of reserved courts and maintaining the reservation sign. (See details of new Interclub fees in this newsletter.) This has taken a while to get in place, but now we have rules and fees similar to our surrounding communities which charge for reserved courts. Our petition to the City Council to maintain the precedent of our free use over the past decade failed to pass.

The Board also voted to revive our non-profit corporate status, which had lapsed for lack of some paperwork over the last few years. Reinstatement may take a few months as the State is slow in processing these items. We are also considering quotes for added liability insurance for the Board Members. We have never had this type of insurance in the past, but a number of Board Members feel it is necessary.

The Board also voted to have the Los Altos Parks Commission speak in our interest with the MVLAHS District regarding use of the courts at LAHS. We wish to maintain a friendly and supportive relationship with the high schools, have reasonable access, and encourage cleaning of these new and very nice courts.

We have a “Turkey Shoot” Tournament on November 18, and it should be lots of fun. Frank Smyth, Tournament Director, encourages you to get your spot early. We have 7 courts reserved and would like you to win a turkey. We are encouraging guests also. See the entry form in this newsletter. We need you to sign the usual liability waiver entry form and pay the very nominal entry fee prior to playing.

We are starting a Doubles Ladder in this issue that will encourage all mixes of gender. The Ladies Doubles Ladder will exist separately, but the Doubles Ladder will encourage all teams and player mixes: mens, mixed, ladies and as many player combinations as the computer can hold (a lot!).
