Turkey Tournament
November 14, 2009

The Los Altos Tennis Club has traditionally held a “Turkey” tennis tournament around Thanksgiving where money is raised for charity. This year the tournament was held on Saturday, November 14 at Los Altos High School Tennis Courts.
The format was “team tennis” where teams competed for the most games won.

The weather was definitely a challenge! Rain had drenched the courts overnight and created a very wet situation – but the club members attacked the wet stuff with rollers and brooms and soon had the courts playable. One set was played and then a cloudburst appeared! The group broke for an early lunch of turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, salad and pumpkin and mince pies. By the time lunch was complete, the sun had reappeared and play resumed. At the end of the tournament, France Rode and Carol Gielow’s team had won the most games and got first crack at the prizes.

All the group contributed to the successful tournament – Patty Chichi prepared gorgeous salads and fruit bowls, Tom Gregory drove the mobile sanitary facilities to the courts.

All entry fees were donated to the Community Services Agency.

The Los Altos Tennis Club is a non-profit group that promotes tennis and tennis activities in the Los Altos area.
