Valentine's Day
February 2007

Report by Frank Smyth

The LATC’s  annual Valentine’s Day tournament was a warm-hearted event that rewarded all players who, for the love of the game, with lots of sunshine and good cheer. There were 10 teams for this mixed doubles event that was evenly rated at 6.0 with 9 teams.

The scores reflected the closeness of the ratings with the team of Mary Ann Weingartner and France Rode edging out the runner up team of Myrna Irigon and Larry Squires by 20 to 19 total points.  Bill and Helen Helson were close at 16. Prizes were awarded to the two top teams.

A special Valentine’s Day cheer went up for Ken Gregory and his new bride Marlene as they were introduced prior to taking the courts. It was apparent they were still in the honeymoon phase as Ken offered a lot of encouragement to his new bride who ‘framed a few’ during match play.

A special thank you to Mary Ann who, along with her usual good cheer, brought the sumptuous victuals that were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who gathered around the tent for food and drink along with some very casual socializing after the match play.
