This year’s LATC Turkey Shoot Tennis Tournament was a genuine cooperative effort that in some ways emulated the Pilgrims the founders of this great holiday observation. First on the scene to open the gates and get the ’convenience’ wagon in place was Lynn Hunton, who also heroically obtained the substitution prizes (no turkeys this year) from Swetka’s. The players began arriving about 9:45am and immediately pitched in setting up the tent, tables and refreshments. Mary Ann Weingartner signed up some new members for next year.
The players took to the courts after introductions at 10am. There were 2 divisions with 6 teams in each. The players were placed according to their ratings and in some cases handicap points were awarded or lost.
In the De Anza Division the number 1 team of Paul Romeoand Lynne Stark was the top team and winners. Paul’s full court coverage supported by strong volleys from Lynne made them clearly the top performers of the day. The other finalists in that division was the number 6 team of Don and Pat Frischmann who as a team have probably improved most in the club. Nice going Don &Pat.
In the El Camino Division there were many closely contested matches as the ratings were even across the draw. The winner of that division is another team that has been vastly improving of Ron Fox and Marilyn Shodiss; they’ve got good chemistry and a strong desire to compete. Good going Ron and Marilyn. The other finalists in this division were two teams for second place team 2 of France Rode and Mary Ann Weingartner, and team 3 Craig and Sayuri Sharper. Nice going all.
That concludes this year’s tournament schedule.
Next will be Valentine’s Day Tournament in February 2007.
