Fall Classic October 7, 2006

The LATC Fall Classic Doubles Tennis Tournament had all the ingredients for a Classic: The weather was absolutely perfect with blue skies and the temperature around the mid-seventies. The players were up for the challenge, all twenty of them forming ten teams, from a variety of sources - not all club members.
The food met the standards for a Classic: a bonanza of sandwiches, fresh fruit, strawberry shortcake, cookies and drinks.
An unplanned side benefit that gave the Classic a special feeling was the serenade from the LATC high School Band that was tuning up for the homecoming football game scheduled later in the day.
The top prize for the event was a year’s membership to the LATC that was collected by the number one team of Ray Uribes and Myrna Irigon. The runner up team of Ron Fox and Marilyn Shodiss collected gift certificates from Swetka’s Tennis Shop. All players were in good form moving about the courts for 3 hours for 3 matches followed by lunch and enjoyable conversations.
Special thanks for setting up to Tom Gregory for bringing the “convenience” wagon – an essential item, Grace Haig for runnig the tournament desk, Marilyn Shodiss for making all the food arrangements, and all the participants who set up and broke down the tent and tables. See you in November for Turkey Shoot.
