The Mountain View Tennis Club invited the LATC to their “Tri-Club Tournament” - now known as the Quad-Club Tournament- hosted at Rengstorff Park . The LATC was invited to this annual two-day tennis blowout in part to thank us for our support in their battle to keep Cuesta Park a community tennis park rather than privately run park, and now LATC will be part of the tournament every year.
If I just talk about the food served buffet style on both days for breakfast and lunch I could fill this report with tidbits of accolades from the menu. Let me just mention that breakfast consisted of barbequed bacon and bagels, fresh fruit and cheeses, coffee and cream. Lunch on Saturday featured smoked barbequed pork ribs and chicken with salads. On the second day lunch was a marvelous barbecued marinated tri-tip of ginger and garlic that many of the players inquired of Chef Mike Cassidy what he used in the preparation so they could “copy” his recipe. Cake, cookies, brownies and pies prevailed on the side while they lasted.
Did I mention the tennis yet? Oh yeah! Eight teams of eight players took to the courts on two schedules for both days of AM or PM. The two top teams from both schedules on the first day returned on the second day for a four team championship round in the morning, and the two trailing teams from each schedule returned on Sunday for an afternoon consolation round of matches.
On both days the format was men’s, women’s and mixed doubles. The teams were set up by the MVTC coordinator Liz Chambers and the other club representatives. The three visiting clubs were Fremont Hills, Tomadachi, and LATC. Players were intermingled with clubs according to their NTRP’s from 4.0 to 3.0, so everyone experienced a wide range of variety of competition as Captains chose each match lineup to ensure that just about everyone had new partners for each round.
The theme of the event was snakes as it coincided with the opening of Snakes on an Airplane, so all the teams had snake names such as the Boas, Pythons, Mambas, Copperheads, Vipers and so on.
There were eleven entries from LATC and we were allotted 15 slots. So please take notice LATC members that this event is a premiere tennis event and should be anticipated in the future for your tennis enjoyment. |
